For A Safe, Vibrant Basalt.

WHAT DOES 3A MEAN FOR BASALT TAXPAYERS?

The proposed Public Services Facility is intended to make more efficient use of public dollars while protecting the equipment and infrastructure Basalt taxpayers have already funded.

One Facility Instead of Two
Police and Public Works both need improved facilities. Housing the departments in one location would avoid duplicating certain spaces and amenities and is intended to reduce overall costs.

Protecting Taxpayer-Owned Equipment
Some Public Works vehicles and equipment are currently stored outdoors. Proper storage and maintenance could extend the useful life of Town-owned equipment and reduce long-term repair and replacement costs.

More Efficient Public Works Operations
Public Works currently operates from five locations. Centralizing staff, vehicles and equipment could reduce travel between facilities, fuel use and time spent moving crews and equipment around town.

Visitors Help Pay
3A proposes a sales tax rather than a property tax. That means visitors who make taxable purchases in Basalt would contribute alongside residents toward the facility.

$7 Million Already Identified
The Town plans to use approximately $7 million in existing reserves toward the estimated $25 million project, with the remaining cost financed over time.

Dedicated Funding
Revenue from the proposed 0.5% sales tax could only be used to build, operate and maintain the Public Services Facility and would be subject to annual independent audits.
